PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s request to meet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore today (Saturday) has been approved. He will arrive at the jail at 5pm.
The chairperson sent a request to the Punjab home department seeking permission to visit Nawaz. The visit is to inquire about Nawaz’s health.
“It would be appreciated if you could kindly manage this visit for today (March 9),” he requested in his letter.
PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Mustafa Khokhar and Bilawal’s political secretary Jameel Soomro will accompany him. He has been granted special permission to visit Nawaz, as visiting day is usually Thursday.
Bilawal and his father Asif Zardari have already expressed their reservations regarding Nawaz’s health and the treatment he is getting in jail.
Appalled to hear of the callous and inhumane treatment of imprisoned former PM Nawaz Sharif by the government. His illness should be treated seriously, be provided with proper medical care and treated with respect.

Earlier, Khursheed Shah, a senior leader of the PPP, said that the government will be held accountable for Nawaz’s deteriorating health.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that her father has refused to get treatment for his medical condition. She also demanded medical care for her father inside the jail.
Just met MNS. Since he hasn’t agreed to be shifted to the hospital his heart disease has worsened (according to cardiologists sent by the govt to examine him y’day), I request the Jail authorities to establish an immediate resuscitation and life saving unit on Jail premises.
