Another 19 tested positive in twin cities taking tally to 194

Rawalpindi : Another 19 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by 2019 novel coronavirus here in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi taking the total number of confirmed cases so far reported from the twin cities to 194 excluding few other patients who were confirmed positive in the region but were residents of other districts.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Wednesday has revealed that as many as nine more patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from Islamabad Capital Territory while 10 from Rawalpindi district in last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed patients so far reported from Rawalpindi has reached 102 while 92 have so far been confirmed positive in ICT.

Of 102 patients so far tested positive for coronavirus illness from Rawalpindi, two died of the disease while six have been discharged after treatment, said Executive District Officer (Health) Rawalpindi Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Wednesday.

He added that on Wednesday, as many as 94 patients are active cases of the disease of which 77 have been undergoing treatment at Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology while 17 are being managed at Benazir Bhutto Hospital. One patient is in critical condition, he said.

It is important that a female patient died of COVID-19 here at Military Hospital on March 25 and her death was the first in the region because of coronavirus illness but her death has been excluded from the district’s dashboard according to health department as she was an ex-employee of the armed forces.

He said a total of 254 persons have been under quarantine in the district including 13 persons added on Tuesday who belong to ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’. They were kept under quarantine at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi but on their request, the city district government and the health department have planned to shift them at Zakariya Masjid in Westridge Rawalpindi where they would complete their quarantine period, he said.

It is important that nearly 200 persons have already been under quarantine at their homes in the district while over 40 in recently established quarantine facilities at PMAS Arid Agriculture University and Fatima Jinnah Women University.

To date, in ICT, the COVID-19 has claimed one life while three patients have already been discharged from hospital after treatment. On Wednesday, a total of 88 patients were active cases of the coronavirus illness according to the official figure released by national Command and Control Centre.
