ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered cases on charges of electricity theft at large scale against four local housing societies and some employees of ex-WAPDA Disco (Distribution Company).
An official of the FIA informed The Nation that Anti-Corruption Circle has booked the management of four societies for their alleged involvement in electricity theft and against employees of the power distribution company for their connivance in the alleged crime. These societies include Yar Mohammad Valley, Safari Park Enclave, Kayani Valley and J. J. Valley. The action has been taken on the direction of Director FIA Islamabad Waqar Ahmed Chauhan. The electricity of all these four housing societies has been disconnected and transformers and wire have been confiscated, according to details. The official said that the power distribution company had made estimates of losses these societies inflicted on the national kitty and they have been given notices to submit the amount in government accounts. He said that Yar Mohammad Valley has been given a notice of Rs 14.9 million payment, Safari Park Rs 6.1 million, Kayani Valley Rs 7.6 million, and J.J. Valley has been asked to pay Rs 17.3 million to the government as penalty. Further investigation in the case is underway.
