Midnight rain provides much-needed relief to residents

  • June 14, 2021

Rawalpindi : Heavy rain and winds in the wee hours of Sunday provided much-needed relief to the residents of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad who have been braving scorching sun for the last few weeks.

The residents were facing warm weather conditions with temperatures rising to above 40 °C Celsius. But the rain that started at midnight turned the weather pleasant in the twin cities.

The rain brought back refreshing feelings to the people, who were troubled by hot weather and power outages. The clouds also gave respite to them from a hot spell that had covered the city for a week.

The students especially school-going children also heaved a sigh of relief as it became difficult for them to face warm weather in classrooms in the face of power loadshedding.

The pleasant weather also made weekly holiday charming for the residents who really enjoyed it by paying visits to near and dear ones.

The heavy rainfall also caused problems in low-lying areas where water entered into some houses. It also hindered flow of vehicular traffic on many roads due to choked drains.

Salim Niazi, a resident of Islamabad, said “Though the power outages in Islamabad are no so intense but warm weather was taking its toll on the residents. Now it is a delightful experience to enjoy pleasant weather after facing many warm days.”

According to the Met Office, moist currents from the Arabian Sea have penetrated in eastern parts of the country from Friday. Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in many cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Murree on Monday.

Usman Akhtar, a resident of Rawalpindi, said ‘The hot weather was really making life tough for last many days. The rain has brought fun and joy and turned the weather pleasant.”
