MQM-P demands Sindh CM soon decides on reopening businesses

  • May 08, 2020

A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan met with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday, the party said in a statement.

The delegation comprised Khawaja Izhar, Karachi Mayor Wasim
Akhtar and Kunwar Naveed.

MQM-P members apprised the chief minister of the
reservations of and the losses suffered by the trade fraternity due to the
ongoing lockdown, according to the statement.

They urged the chief minister to immediately meet traders
and resolve their issues.

A final decision regarding reopening of businesses in Sindh
be made soon, the MQM-P members demanded. Immediate action be taken over
inappropriate behaviour of the police with businesspersons.

Traders in Karachi announced earlier this week they will
resume their businesses in Sindh from 15th Ramazan.

The province has been under a lockdown due to an outbreak of
coronavirus since March 23.

The number of known cases has exceeded 8,000, while the virus
has so far claimed 148 lives in Sindh.

The MQM-P further asked the chief minister to issue funds to
pay the 15% raise in salaries of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation employees.

The chief minister agreed to the demands, the party said in
its statement. CM Shah will soon meet representatives of the trade fraternity to
resolve their issues.
