PML-N sweeps polls in RCB, CCB

Rawalpindi   –   Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has swept to victory against its arch rival, the ruling PTI in the cantonment boards elections held here.

According to unofficial results, the PML-N secured 12 out of 19 seats in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) polls.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamat-e- Islami and independent candidates managed to win 7 seats in 36 wards. In a tough contest with the PML-N, JI won two seats, PTI bagged victory in two wards and an independent candidate won 3 seats. Unfortunately, PPP could not win even a single seat in Rawalpindi.

According to unofficial results announced by the Presiding Officer Umer Farooq Malik on Monday, the PML-N candidates who bagged victory with majority in RCB’s 7 wards including Arshad Mehmood Qureshi, Rashid Ahmed Khan, Malik Munir, Malik Mansoor Afsar, Malik Amjad Hussain, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Malik and Chaudhry Abdul Shakoor.  Two independent candidates namely Malik Usman and Haji Zafar Iqbal won two seats from RCB wards.

In CCB wards, the PML-N won 5 of 10 seats to maintain its stronghold over the cantt and garrison. PTI and JI candidates won 2 seats each, while independent candidates also bagged victory. According to unofficial results, PML-N winning candidates are Malik Azhar Nahim, Raja Irfan Imtiaz, Chaudhry Changez Khan, Muhammad Jamil and Raja Pervaiz Akhter. Likewise, Ajmeer Khan and Chaudhry Nauman Shaukat of PTI managed to secure victory on two seats whereas Yasir Khan and Mirza Khalid Mehmood of JI also won two seats in CCB elections.

Soon after the announcements of results, the jubilant workers and supporters of winning candidates poured on roads and in streets to celebrate victory.

Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja visited residence of an independent candidate Haji Zafar Iqbal to congratulate him on his victory whereas ex-MNA Malik Abrar, former MPA Chaudhry Ayaz Ahmed and other leaders of PML-N attended jubilations arranged by their winning candidates.
