Virus claims three more lives in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi : At least, three confirmed patients of coronavirus illness, COVID-19 died here in the district at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in last 24 hours that took the total number of deaths so far caused by the virus to 35 in the district while four patients have already died of the disease in the federal capital.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Sunday reveals that all the three patients died of COVID-19 at BBH were elderly patients having over 60 years of age. Two of the three male patients died of COVID-19 at BBH in last 24 hours were residents of cantonment area while one was from Rawal Town, the thickly populated area in the district.

It is worth mentioning here that over one-half of the total deaths so far caused by the coronavirus illness in the district have been reported from Rawal Town.

In last 24 hours, another 49 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 here in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi taking total number of confirmed cases so far reported from the twin cities to 975 while another 20 have recovered taking total number of recoveries to 215 in the region.

As many as 21 more patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from the district in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients so far reported from Rawalpindi to 582 of which 160 patients have been discharged after achieving complete cure, mostly from Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.

With three more deaths due to COVID-19 in last 24 hours, the death toll reached 35 in Rawalpindi district where a total of 387 active cases of the illness have been undergoing treatment at present, said Executive District Officer (Health) Rawalpindi Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Sunday.

He said as many as 90 confirmed patients of the disease have been in isolation at their homes in the district while 297 are undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town including Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Pakistan Red Crescent Rawalpindi and a field hospital at Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex.

Talking of persons under quarantine, he said as many as 220 persons who have reached Pakistan from Middle East have been put under quarantine at Fatima Jinnah Women University in town while 987 persons have been under quarantine at their homes in the district.

Meanwhile, as many as 11 more confirmed patients of COVID-19 in Islamabad Capital Territory have recovered from the disease taking total number of recoveries so far in the federal capital to 55.

On Sunday, another 28 patients were tested positive for COVID-19 from ICT. The total number of confirmed patients so far reported from ICT has reached 393 of which 55 have recovered so far. To date, the disease claimed a total of four lives in the federal capital according to the official figure released by National Command and Control Centre.
