NeNe Leakes Claims She Never Experienced Racial Profiling The Way Wendy Williams Purportedly Did

NeNe Leakes, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, claims she never experienced racial profiling the way that Wendy Williams apparently did while at a luxury department store in New York City earlier this week.

On Monday, Wendy described the incident where she, Leakes, and Marlo Hampton went shopping at a Bergdorf Goodman store in Midtown Manhattan. Williams claimed the employees there treated them as if they were “hood” – while insinuating it was racially-motivated.

During an appearence on The Breakfast Club, however, NeNe claims she didn’t look at the incident that way. NeNe said she and Marlo were there and they didn’t think anything of the security guards’ presence. They just thought the security was there as they often are.

According to Leakes, when they all went into the store, Wendy made a purchase and a sales clerk started wrapping it up as usual. NeNe stated that she thought she and Marlo were playing around with each other a bit in the store.

While the trio shopped around, Wendy said she thought security had been following them around since they came in, and Marlo responded, “I think they’re just fascinated.” In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Bergdorf Goodman wrote a letter to BET, stating that they would look into the claim.

The statement spelled out the usual public relations explanations, including the organization’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all guests, in addition to the requirement that all shoppers are treated with dignity and respect.

NeNe and Wendy have had a busy past year. Earlier in 2020, NeNe Leakes explained her thoughts on Real Housewives of Atlanta, and whether or not she’d continue working for Bravo TV on their successful reality TV series.

In past interviews, she explained that while she was practically responsible for the success of RHOA, she didn’t want to stick around if it continued being dramatic and negative for everyone involved. NeNe has been fighting with one of her co-stars.

Wendy, on the other hand, just wrapped her divorce proceedings with ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, who reportedly cheated on her with another woman and fathered a child.
