Looking at Ayushmann Khurrana’s best performances on his birthday

  • September 15, 2020

If you haven’t heard of Ayushmann Khurrana, arguably one of the most sought-after and bankable actors in Bollywood today, you’ve surely been living under a rock. He is known for picking out unconventional roles and piling hits on hits over the past few years.

The Vicky Donor star turned 36 on Monday, September 14, and what better way to pay homage to him than by looking back at some of his best performances? Khurrana’s Bollywood journey is one for the books, and so, here are six of the best roles he’s played over the years, as compiled from Pinkvilla. Read on!

1.     ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ (2015)

Khurrana as Prem Tiwari in this refreshing love story is perhaps one of his best performances till date. The film, that also marked the debut of actor Bhumi Pednekar, revolves around a man forced by his family to get married and is resentful about it. But he eventually falls in love with his wife and Khurrana lights up that storyline perfectly.

2.    ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ (2017)

A classic commercial comedy for the masses, Bareilly Ki Barfi somehow manages to still be one of Khurrana’s most endearing projects – one that will make you re-watch it just for him (and also Rajkummar Rao). He plays Chirag Dubey here, a smitten lover who uses his friend as a foil to interact with the girl he’s fallen for. It’s entertaining and a must watch!

3.    ‘Andhadhun’ (2018)

This film helped propel Khurrana to mainstream notice with his stunning portrayal of a blind pianist. It is a thriller that keeps you on your feet, and the actor, in his role as Akash Saraf who gets caught up in a web of murder and deceit, is stellar.

4.    ‘Dream Girl’ (2019)

At this point, we were forced to ask, ‘What is it that this man can’t do?’ Dream Girl saw Khurrana playing not just the hero but also the heroine and in turn, delivering a crackling performance for the books! He plays Karam Singh, a small-town boy with the unique talent of imitating the female voice.

5.    ‘Bala’ (2019)

In this out-of-the-box film, which has sort of become Khurrana’s own brand, he plays the role of Balmukund ‘Bala’ Shukla, a young man struggling with premature balding. He tries out countless procedures to get back his lost hair, making for a great performance on Khurrana’s part.

6.    ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ (2020)

This was a big one for Khurrana himself since he got to share the screen with Amitabh Bachchan here. He essays the role of Baankey in this endearing comedy, a man who tries every trick possible to evade rent but eventually lands in trouble. This one is a great watch and Khurrana is spectacular as per usual.
