Quentin Tarantino announces new project, an eight-episode-long TV show

  • November 19, 2022

While promoting his new book Cinema Speculation at a New York event hosted by Elvis Mitchell on Wednesday, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino took to the stage to announce his upcoming directorial venture – a limited series – to be released next year, reported Variety.

Although The Hateful Eight director did not disclose further details regarding the project’s production or storyline, he did point towards his prolonged interest to come back to direct television series.

This is not the first time Tarantino has worked on a TV show. In 1995, he helmed the ER season 1 instalment, Motherhood. The story revolved around employees who dealt with life-changing events on Mother’s Day. Later, in 2005, he also directed two episodes of the crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

The episode, titled Grave Danger, was lauded by audiences and was even compared to likes of Kill Bill. The show mirrored Tarantino’s trademarks of a nonlinear storyline and a black-and-white autopsy scene.

Since this grand achievement, the Django Unchained writer has toyed with the idea of his return. In February 2022, rumours surfaced that the Kill Bill filmmaker was in discussions to direct episodes of FX’s Justified revival.

At the event, Tarantino also discussed other projects that crossed paths with him but never made it to the screen. He mentioned writing a play before the release of the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but the script remains unseen.

He also was approached to polish the story of Samuel L Jackson’s 2000 Shaft reboot but rejected the offer.
Taking a keen interest in Marvel Entertainment productions, Tarantino revealed his desire to direct Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos. The movie covers the story of Nick Fury, played by Jackson and his World War II regiment after the first Captain America instalment.

However, it is still unclear whether Tarantino will go through with the project as the filmmaker “steered away” from the discussion after sharing another possible project of directing a Star Trek film which he pitched to J J Abrams.

Cinema Speculation, Tarantino’s latest book was published in November and includes his reflections on films.
