The Weeknd donates $300,000 for Beirut blast relief

  • August 14, 2020

Canadian singer The Weeknd has donated $300,000 to victims of the Beirut blast, reported Variety. The donation was made to the Global Aid for Lebanon to assist victims of the horrific explosion in the country’s capital last week, which killed more than 200 people and destroyed a central area. His manager Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby revealed this on social media.

Slaiby, who is of Lebanese heritage, along with his wife, former Miss USA Rima Fakih, has been mobilising relief efforts for the recently ravaged country. The couple has made a donation of $250,000 to the relief fund themselves.

“I am so honoured and humbled to work with artists who have such deep care for the world and right now, for our brothers and sisters of Lebanon, who are in pain and need our collective help,” Slaiby wrote. “I want to thank my brother The Weeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign,” he said.

The Blinding Lights hit maker has recently donated to other causes too. In June, The Weeknd donated $200,000 each to Black Lives Matter Global Network and the Colin Kaepernick Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative. Then, he gave $500,000 each to MusiCares’ Covid-19 relief fund and to the front-line hospital workers of Scarborough Health Network, the hospital network in the Ontario city where he was raised. Additionally, his virtual concert on TikTok last week raised $350,000 for the company’s Equal Justice Initiative.
