Polo: Contrasting wins for Master Paints, AOS

LAHORE: Master Paints and AOS Polo Team carved out contrasting triumphs in the Hamdan Polo Cup for Lahore Open Polo Championship 2019 here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Wednesday.

In the first match of the day, Master Paints toppled Platinum Homes/Olympia by 7-3. Mariano Regal scored a quartet from the winning side while Bilal Haye, Farooq Amin Sufi and Raja Jalal Arslan converted one goal each. From the losing side, Amirreza Behboudi banged in a brace and Ahmed Ali Tiwana hit one.

Both the teams couldn’t open their account in the first chukker, which ended goal less. The highly-charged second chukker saw dominance of Master Paints as they fired in fabulous four goals against one by Platinum Homes to take a healthy 4-1 lead.

In the third chukker, Master Paints maintained their supremacy and thrashed two more goals to enhance their lead to 6-1. Platinum Homes fought back well in the fourth and last chukker as they converted two goals against one by Master Paints, who won the match by 7-4.

In the second match of the day, AOS Polo Team edged out Master Paints Black by 8-7. Raja Samiullah emerged as star of the day from the winning side as he struck a quartet while Hashim Kamal Agha and Shah Shamyl Alam also contributed with a brace each. From the losing side, Manuel Carranza slammed in six goals and Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana hit one.

AOS Polo Team opened their account through a field goal to take 1-0 lead, which couldn’t last long as Master Paints converted a 30-yard penalty to make it 1-all. AOS finished the chukker with another field goal to take 2-1 lead. The second chukker was dominated by AOS as they banged in a brace against one by Master Paints Black to take gain 4-2 lead. Master Paints Black fought back well and slammed in three goals to gain a slight 5-4 edge.

In the well-connected fourth chukker, AOS Polo Team made a good comeback by scoring three goals against two by Master Paints Black to level the score at 7-all. No further goal was scored when the final whistle was blown, thus match entered the sudden death chukker, where AOS hammered the match-winning goal through Hashim Kamal Agha to win the match 8-7.
