ISLAMABAD: Pakistan captain Azhar Ali wanted the best cricket from the selected team to outwit Bangladesh, admitting that hosts had clear edge in pace attack which according to him will hold the key at the Pindi Stadium.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Azhar admitted winning a Test match always required best out of you.
“To win a Test you have to give your best even if you are favourites. I think Bangladesh can be a very competitive side, can surprise you if you take them lightly. So we have to play our best cricket to win the Test. We definitely are having edge as we are playing in condition suited to us.”
Azhar claimed having the best pace attack. “Yes, Pakistan have an opportunity. We feel that in our home condition we can win Test matches and tomorrow there’s another opportunity and we will try our best to cash that. Test matches are always played on your strength.
“At the moment we feel our fast bowling is our strength. We will try to keep the condition which suits the fast bowlers. One must take advantage of home conditions and we are going to do the same against Bangladesh.”
Pakistan captain hoped that he would try to lead from the front with his individual performance. “My batting is picking up and I am hopeful to contribute to the team cause with my personal performance.”
Azhar praised Pakistan and Bangladesh boards’ efforts to ensure the series. “Throughout the world a positive message will go that Pakistan is safe for international cricket. More cricket we organise the better it would be for the country and for its future hosting abilities. I congratulate both boards for making it happen.”
He held Pindi crowd in high esteem, saying that his team enjoyed playing here against Sri Lanka.
“Even when it was a dead Test against Sri Lanka, packed crowd enjoyed last day’s proceedings. I think Rawalpindi crowd was fantastic last time. Only we know what the feeling was. I hope they will support us again like the way they did last time.”
