Taimur captures CNS Amateur Golf title
ISLAMABAD: Taimur Khan captured the gross title and Afzal Ahmad returned as net winner in the 13th DTA Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship 2019 that concluded at the Margalla Greens on Sunday.
The three-day main amateur category saw Taimur (Peshawar Golf Club) ending up eight under 208 over 54 holes to take honour in gross. He left Ziaraf (PIH) well behind on the second spot. Ziaraf finished the three-day competition with four over 220.
Afzal from host club won the amateur net category by making full use of his handicap score. He finished the three-day event at six under 210 net. He was followed by Tariq Mehmood who was two-stroke behind at 212 net.
Ali Bangash (Gardan City Golf Club) however won the main trophy that was played between golfers having handicap of seven to 12. He carded 203 net over three days to win the coveted trophy. He was followed by Col Naseem. Rizwan Javaid was the winner of gross in this category. Ameer Khawaja took the second position.
The four-day event, which was held from November 21-24, drew around 250 enthusiastic golfers from all parts of the country who participated in various categories which included amateurs, senior amateurs, junior and ladies.
Jiyoung Jun (MGGC-171) was the ladies gross winner while Tahira Nazir (RGC-174) ended up as runner-up. Women net winner was Iman Ali Shah (Gym-138) while Farzana Bajwa (MGGC-146) ended up as runner-up.
Former Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.
He congratulated prize winners for their well-earned success, appreciated their skills, dexterity and commended the high standard of sport displayed by all the participants during the event.
He also lauded the consistent and generous support from sponsors, management of Margalla Greens Golf Club Islamabad and media fraternity, without which the event would not have been such a resounding success.
