Notices issued to PCB, others on plea against Zone IV no-confidence meeting

KARACHI: Sindh High Court has issued notices to Pakistan Cricket Board, Karachi City Cricket Association, deputy election commissioner and others on a lawsuit against the vote of no confidence meeting with regard to election of KCCA Zone IV.

Plaintiff Shamim Anwar Siddiqui, who was elected as secretary of KCCA Zone IV, submitted that deputy election commissioner sent a letter on March 3, 2019, to the President Zone IV regarding no confidence motion against him and general manager of national stadium to monitor the special meeting being held for the no confidence motion.

He submitted that the meeting was illegal as the deputy election commissioner sent fresh voters list of KCCA Zone IV, not the voters list on the basis of which the election was held in 2017 without completing the mandatory 7-day notice.

The plaintiff submitted that the general manager of the national stadium despite objections raised by the plaintiff conducted the meeting which was illegal and without jurisdiction. He submitted that the PCB had also not deputed any person to monitor the meeting. He said the general manager of national stadium was not authorised to act as election commission.

Citing PCB, KCCA, deputy election commissioner, general manager national stadium as defendant the court was requested to declare the special meeting as illegal and without jurisdiction. SHC issued notices to the PCB and other defendants for April 10 and directed them to file their replies on the next date of hearing.
