Designer Maria B’s husband released from police custody in Lahore

  • March 24, 2020

Designer Maria B’s husband, Tahir Saeed, has been released
from police custody, the couple confirmed in a video posted online.

He was arrested for making their servant escape after he
tested positive for the coronavirus, the Lahore district administration said on
Tuesday.

The servant was arrested from Khushab and was put into
quarantine, a spokesperson for the Lahore police said. He told officials that
the designer’s husband made him escape from their home in Lahore’s Defence
area.

Saeed was arrested for endangering the lives of others, the
spokesperson added.

Maria B, in an earlier video, made an appeal to Prime
Minister Imran Khan in this regard. She said the police raided her house on
Monday night “like I was the biggest drug mafia don in Lahore”.

The designer said her husband was informed that there was an
FIR against him. She said she was extremely stressed as she was waiting for her
family’s test results for Covid-19.

However, the designer and her husband explained in another
video what had happened, saying that strange news had been making its way
around the internet.

They said they wanted to clear some misconceptions Maria’s
video had caused.

The designer’s husband said around 20 policemen had arrived at their doorstep, describing it as “abuse” and “harassment”.

“I cannot tell you how these people behaved
yesterday…they used the butt of the gun to break my door open,” Saeed
said.

“When I opened the door I was shocked to see three
vehicles from two different police stations and 20-25 men had come to get
me.”

According to Saeed, yesterday’s incident was pure panic. He
said the prime minister had been telling people not to do so and thus avoiding
a complete lockdown.
