The water supply situation has improved in the urban areas as 38 out of total 70 faulty tubewells have been repaired and the repair work on remaining 32 tubewells would be completed in next couple of weeks.
Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi said they allocated Rs40 million for repair of tubewells, water tankers and main water pipeline from the Simli Dam, adding “The repair work on water pipeline from the Simli Dam is nearing completion. We have also identified the areas from where the water was being stolen and now this illegal practice has been stopped.”
He said they have received less electricity bills as compared to the previous months after installation of new water pumps in dysfunctional tube wells.
Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi said a proper mechanism has been developed to strictly monitor the water supply system and take immediate action in case of any complaint regarding water theft anywhere in the capital city.
To a question, he said the difference of urban and rural Islamabad is being abolished through introduction of new policies and allocation of millions of rupees to provide adequate amount of water to all areas of the capital city is one of few measures in this respect.
He said the project of water supply network in Margalla Town has been completed with the funds amounting to Rs. 2.5 million.
