Shukriya Khanum – Pakistan’s initial womanlike blurb commander dies

Shukriya Khanum, who was a initial Pakistani lady to obtain a blurb pilot’s licence, has died of cancer in Lahore during a age of 82, BBC Urdu reported on Monday.

She competent as a commander in 1959, true after graduating from a Government College. However, it took 30 years before another lady followed in her footsteps.

When Shukriya Khanum assimilated Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), womanlike pilots were not available to fly blurb planes.

Two other women, Ayesha Rabia and Maliha Sami, faced restrictions after holding a PIA commander exam in 1980 during a troops supervision of Gen Ziaul Haq.

But after Zia died in 1989, PIA called them and invited to attend grave commander training.

“For 9 years we waited, since manners did not concede women to fly,” Ms Rabia told a BBC. Ms Sami flew her initial moody as initial officer in 1990, a day before Ms Rabia flew her first.

In 2005, Ms Rabia became a initial womanlike Pakistani captain of a blurb scheduled flight. A year later, she flew a initial Pakistani moody with an all-female crew.

Ms Rabia remembers a day in 1989 when she went to see Shukriya Khanum in Karachi.
