Drunken man allegedly kills 9-year-old girl after rape

Rawalpindi   –  A drunken man in Jhanda Cheechi allegedly killed a nine-year-old girl after sexually assaulting while sparking unrest and agitation in the area, informed sources on Tuesday. 

The deceased girl was a student of class 3 and daughter of a car washer, they said.

The incident took place in the limits of Police Station (PS) Civil Lines and the rapist-cum-killer identified as Baber Masih was arrested by police, sources said. 

An FIR, registered with police, revealed that the accused man, who works as a private sanitary worker in the area, was helped by his wife Aniqa in brutalising the nine-year-old girl. 

An investigation revealed that the girl was gang-raped before she was murdered. Allegedly, Babar Masih tortured the girl to death after raping her, said an investigator.

According to contents of FIR, a copy of which was available with The Nation, the father of victim girl told police he has one son and three daughters and washes cars in Katcheri to earn livelihood. He added some guests arrived at his home on March 22 and he sent his daughter to nearby shop for buying edibles for guests but she did not return home. He added a search by family revealed that Aniqa took the girl to her home which later was locked. “We found shoe of our daughter in front of her bedroom,” the complainant said adding that torture marks were found on body of his daughter. He appealed police to register case against Aniqa and her unknown accomplices and to arrest them.

Police registered case and arrest Babar, the husband of Aniqa, sources said.

Meanwhile, the family and area people poured on road and surrounded police station Civil Lines. Blocking road for traffic, the mob attempted to storm into police station while chanting slogans, “Give us custody of rapist and we will hang him publicly.”

SSP Potohar Division Syed Ali, when contacted by The Nation, confirmed the incident. He said police held the accused and started investigation. He said police took samples from body of the girl and sent to laboratory for forensic. He said police also collected some more evidences from the crime scene. 

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and negotiated with the protestors. The protestors dispersed peacefully after top command of Rawalpindi police assured them that the accused would be brought to justice as per law.

Funeral prayer of the girl was offered at Jhanda Cheechi and buried in a nearby graveyard.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani took notice of the inhuman incident and sought report from RPO Rawalpindi Region Imran Ahmer in this regard. 

Police will produce the accused before court today (Wednesday) to obtain his physical remand in the high profile case.
