NEW DELHI: At slightest 8 people have died and hundreds sojourn hospitalised after suspected food poisoning during a church feast in a remote northeastern Indian state, military pronounced Tuesday.
Hundreds of worshippers vomited and complained of stomach pain after they ate rice and pig after mass in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya state on Sunday.
Seven children are among those to have died.
Authorities contend they think a food served to scarcely 2,000 people during a Nongkya encampment church was stale.
“Eight people are reliable passed and scarcely 200 are in hospital,” Ramesh Singh, district military arch said.
Singh pronounced they have sent samples of a food for laboratory tests and systematic an review into a incident.
The ill are undergoing diagnosis during 4 hospitals in a state collateral Shillong, with some pronounced to be critical.
