White Cane and Safety Day observed

The International White Cane and Safety day was observed at The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Saturday.

To mark the day a walk was observed from DCO office to RCCI where people from all spheres of life, visually impaired persons, students, teachers, traders and office-bearers of RCCI participated.

Addressing the participants of the walk at the Chamber premises, President RCCI Raja Amer Iqbal said visually impaired persons are an important part of society and one should give them due respect and they should be treated as special persons rather handicapped.

He said that it is our collective responsibility to look after these special persons.

RCCI will be vocal to raise the voice of special persons through the chamber platform and will urge government to provide maximum facilities to special persons. Better training and education schools and handsome quota in public sector jobs can help them to be useful citizen of the country.

Under Corporate Social Responsibility, private sector should come forward and play its due role, he added.

The White Cane Safety Day is celebrated every year on October 15 to highlight blind and visually impaired people’s achievements and to remind people how white cane can play an important role in helping the blind and the visually impaired lives with greater independence.
