IHC adjourns PTI case against contempt proceeding till Tuesday

  • August 28, 2017

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday adjourned hearing of PTI plea challenging contempt of court proceedings by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against Imran Khan till Tuesday.

Justice Aamer Farook of IHC heard the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking an end of contempt of court hearings by the ECP against its chief with regards to the ‘foreign funding’ case being heard by the apex court.

The counsel for Akber S. Baber apprised the bench that the ECP had already dismissed the PTI’s request to stay the contempt of court proceedings.

A new application should have been filed by the PTI in the IHC against the ECP decision, he added.

The bench questioned as to whether it was appropriate for the court to hear the case, which was already being heard by the Supreme Court.

A divisional bench of the same court had also heard an identical petition of the PTI earlier, it was futher stated.

Since PTI’s counsel Anwar Mansoor could not appear before the court, the bench adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.

It may be mentioned here that the ECP had served a contempt of court notice to PTI chief Imran Khan on August 16 for accusing the Commission of having bias in the hearing of `foreign funding’ case. – APP
