ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday deserted a defence seeking a dismissal of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Tariq Bajwa and announced his appointment as per law.
Twenty-two senators mostly from a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had challenged Bajwa’s appointment in a IHC.
During a conference today, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb deserted a reservations of a petitioners.
Bajwa’s appointment is in suitability with a law and Constitution, Justice Aurangzeb declared.
On Aug 16, 2017, 22 senators, including PPP’s Taj Haider, Farhatullah Babar, Sassi Palejo and Farooq H Naik, had challenged his appointment.
The petitioners had contended that a correct procession was not adopted in Bajwa’s appointment.
Bajwa was allocated SBP administrator in Jul 2017 after Ashraf Mehmood Wathra finished his three-year term.
