Batting legend Javed Miandad has said that Pakistan and India should play bilateral series on a regular basis.

In an interview with APP, he asked why the two sides cannot play each other when they can do so in the World Cup, Champions Trophy, World Twenty20 and Asia Cup.

Miandad said that bilateral ties between the two countries would improve if they kept playing against each other.

“Politicians should stop politicising the matter,” he said. “We [Pakistan and India] can rule the world of cricket if we work and play together.”

Speaking about the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision to convert the 2021 Champions Trophy into a World T20 event, Miandad said it is a good decision as cricket these days is getting faster and people are more interested in watching shorter format cricket instead of longer games.

“However the ICC must keep a strict eye on match fixing issues as shorter formats have a bigger threat of fixing,” he said.
