Reports said the breakdown originated from the national grid that developed a fault. As of 9am, K-Electric said that power had been restored to most of the city.
The power disruption caused tripping of an extra high tension line at the Bin Qasim power plant, disconnecting electricity supply to Karachi.
Several K-Electric grid stations have tripped and most of the city areas, including the Red Zone, was without power overnight.
There was no electricity in Malir, Defence, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sohrab Goth, Garden, North Karachi, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Saddar, Kharadar, Lyari and other areas.
Various parts of the city are experiencing an outage due to EHT tripping. We are gathering information and will share an update shortly.
