Texas elementary school to be named after Malala Yousafzai

An elementary school in Texas is going to be named after social rights activist Malala Yousafzai to honour her mission to promote education.

The decision was made during the meeting of the Fort Bend Independent School District’s (ISD) board of trustees on Monday.

“Fort Bend ISD is proud to name Malala Yousafzai Elementary in honor of a true advocate for education. Our FBISD Profile of a Graduate outlines the skills and attributes graduates should possess upon graduation from our schools. Through her compassion for others and servant leadership, Yousafzai is an embodiment of these characteristics, which we are trying to instill in our students,” said said Dr Charles Dupre, FBISD’s superintendent of schools.

“We look forward to hearing of the many successes of the school and its students in the future.”

The school will be opened in January 2020.
