ISLAMABAD – A 50-year-old former military officer was shot dead by unknown killers in his house located at sector H-13 of federal capital, informed sources on Saturday.

The body was moved to PIMS for autopsy by the police where the deceased was identified as Lt Col (R) Tariq Qureshi, who is said to be close friend of Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi of Lal Mosque, they said.

However, the son of deceased reported to Police Station (PS) Shamas Colony that a servant has allegedly killed his father by shooting him in the back with a pistol and fled from the house. Police registered murder case against the servant and launched manhunt to arrest him. “The incident took place on Friday after Magrib when an unknown killer shot Lt Col (R) Tariq Qureshi dead,” said a senior police officer. Police rushed to the scene and recovered the body besides moving it to PIMS for post-mortem, he said adding that the killer managed to escape.

SHO PS Shamas Colony SI Amir told media that the former military officer was allegedly murdered by his servant and HIU under the supervision of Akram Khan Niazi is investigating the case. He said the reason behind murder is yet to be determined by the police. SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer, during a chat with The Nation, also confirmed that the servant allegedly killed his landlord at his house.

On the other hand, a police officer said Lt Col (R) Tariq Qureshi, former senior Pakistan Army officer, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Islamabad.  Sadiq, the son of a slain former military officer, told Islamabad’s Shams Colony police that his father, Tariq Qureshi, was lying dead in the bathroom of his house and had been shot at, he added.

Meanwhile, two assailants riding on a motorcycle gunned down a man at Bahiyan Sharif Village of Chakbeli Khan apparently over property dispute.

The deceased was identified as Mohsin, whose body was moved to hospital for autopsy.

According to a police spokesman, Mohsin was taking his wife to doctor when two assailants riding on a motorcycle intercepted him. “One of the assailants whipped out pistol and shot Mohsin dead,” he said adding that the killers managed to escape from the scene. He said the victim family lodged a complaint with PS Chontra that Mohsin had a property dispute with Yasin against whom he (Mohsin) also got a case registered. He said the victim family accused Yasin of murdering Mohsin. Further investigation of the murder case was underway, he said.
