ACLC arrests car-lifter after encounter

ISLAMABAD – The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of Islamabad police has nabbed a car-lifter after an exchange of fire in the limits of Sabzi Mandi police station, informed a police spokesman on Friday.

He said, on a tip-off, the AVLC teams along with the personnel of local police station raided a shrine in sector I-11/1 on Thursday midnight.

During the raid, the accused opened fire on the police party. After exchange of fire between police and the car-lifters, accused Yousaf son of Hassan was arrested after receiving bullet injuries while his accomplice managed to escape the scene.

The police recovered a pistol along with ammunition from the nabbed person and started investigation after registering a case in Sabzi Mandi police station. 

The arrested accused was involved in lifting numerous vehicles from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and Lahore region. He also wanted to police in 12 cases of car-lifting. 

The police was conducting raids to arrest the other suspect.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police arrested two persons on charges of selling drugs in educational institutions and recovered narcotics from their possession.

According to a police spokesman, a team of Kohsar police station caught Omer and Abdullah and recovered 2620 grams of hashish, 6 grams cocaine, 50 ecstasy tablets and two pistols along with ammunition.

A case has been registered against the nabbed persons and further investigation was underway.

“The Islamabad police are conducting target-based operations to root out the menace from the society,” the spokesman quoted IGP as saying.
