There’s some bad news for Apple fans who have been waiting 18 months to find out when they could purchase an AirPower wireless charger.

Apple has cancelled its AirPower wireless charger, citing difficulty in achieving the company’s “high standards” for the product, reported TechCrunch.

AirPower was designed to charge the Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods all at once, but after Apple announced the device in 2017, there were persistent rumours of difficulties and no product was ever launched.

“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,” said Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice-president of hardware engineering in a statement provided to TechCrunch.

It’s a big blow to Apple, which doesn’t typically cancel unreleased products. The company first announced the product when it launched the iPhone X in September 2017. It was expected to debut in 2018.
