CDA suspends Assistant Director Forests for facilitating land mafia

ISLAMABAD – The Enforcement Department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) with the assistance of Islamabad District Administration and Islamabad Police, on Tuesday conducted operation against encroachment in Saidpur village here 

The Enforcement Directorate took action on the reports that illegal constructions were being carried out on the forest land in Saidpur area. Taking prompt action, the Enforcement Directorate demolished illegal ??constructions while Assistant Director Forest Atiq-ur-Rehman was also suspended for allegedly providing patronage and facilitating the illegal occupants.   According to the details, the staff of Enforcement Directorate was informed that 26 marla state land was sold by Abdul Hameed son of Muhammad Anwar and Assistant Director Environment Atiq-ur-Rehman after extorting Rs100,000 sold it to Muhammad Jameel son of Ghulam Nabi etc. fraudulently. In this regard, immediate action was taken and operation was carried out against the land mafia by using heavy machinery thereby demolishing illegal construction while construction material was also confiscated and attempt of illegal constructions on the forest lands was foiled. A formal FIR has been registered against six persons including Atiq-ur-Rehman, Assistant Director Forest, for their involvement in illegal constructions and facilitation of these elements, while departmental action has been initiated against Atiq-ur-Rehman as well, according to the officials. Furthermore, the CDA administration has said that legal action will be taken if any CDA or district administration official was found to be involved in trespassing, illegal construction or violating other building by-laws. The CDA management has said that forests are the beauty of Islamabad and its protection is their top priority. For the last several months, the CDA has been conducting continuous operations in the capital against encroachments and illegal constructions, which have resulted in the retrieval of government land worth billions of rupees.
