  • September 29, 2021

ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority has decided to establish the first public sector cochlear implant center of the country in Islamabad.

The facility has been named as CDA Cochlear Implant Center and will be established in the capital. The decision has been taken by the CDA Board in its recent meeting. The CDA cochlear implant center will be an exclusive center for the treatment of deafness and ear-related diseases. The initiative is based on the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to provide better healthcare facilities to the citizens of the country.

The CDA had been running the only public sector cochlear implant programme in Islamabad since 2016 and was providing regular cochlear implant services to the patients from all over the country, but due to increase in workload, demand and lack of ample human resources, Capital Development Authority decided to establish segregated and exclusive facility for the treatment of deaf and mute population of the country. In this regard, the CDA board has approved the creation of one post of consultant (BPS-20), one post of cochlear implant surgeon (BPS-19), one post of registrar (BPS-18), and two posts of audiologist and one post of speech therapist (BPS-17), said the officials on Tuesday.

In line with the direction of Chairman CDA, 10 beds in the near-to-completion block in Capital Hospital have already been allocated for cochlear implant patients while funds amounting to Rs80 million have also been allocated for purchase of latest equipment and upgradation of operation theater.
