Dacoits snatch Rs10m from 2 jewellers on Murree Road

Rawalpindi   –   Two armed dacoits have snatched cash Rs10 million from two jewellers on gunpoint at Mareer Chowk on Murree Road here on Monday, informed sources.

Police have registered a case against unknown dacoits on complaint of victim jeweller and began investigation with no arrest or recovery so far. The incident took place within limits of Police Station (PS) Cantt, they said. 

According to sources, a jeweller namely Chaudhry Immad came in a bank in Saddar along with his brother Chaudhry Riaz and a private guard from where he withdrew Rs10 million. They said the troika reached at Mareer Chowk in a car when two unknown dacoits having pistols in hands intercepted them at 1pm. The dacoits broke car windows with handles of pistols and snatched cash from them and fled.

City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ahsan Younas rushed to the crime scene and collected evidences besides recording statements of victims and the eyewitnesses, they said.

Also, the office bearers of Murree Road Jewellers Association including President Abdul Qadoos arrived on crime scene and registered their strong protest over dacoity on Murree Road. CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas assured the office bearers of jewellers association and the victims that police would arrest the dacoits soon. 

A police spokesman said a case has been registered against the dacoits with the Police Station Cantt while further investigation was underway. 

He said the investigators have obtained CCTV footages to identify the dacoits.

SP Potohar Division Tasawar Iqbal did not receive call on his cell phone when this correspondent tried to know his version about the dacoity involving two dacoits. 

Meanwhile, Naseerabad police held a drug peddler and seized 1kg charas from his possession. The drug peddler was serving in a sensitive department and involved in supplying drugs, said sources adding that police have handed over the drug peddler to Military Police for further departmental action.
