Demonstrators protesting against Indian human rights violations in London attacked

A crowd of demonstrators protesting against human rights violations in front of the Indian High Commission in London were attacked. 

People from different Indian minority communities, including Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, staged a demonstration to protest against human rights violations in India, especially in Indian-Administered Kashmir.

The protesters were shouting slogans against the increasing aggression of Indian forces when a crowd of people attacked them and attempted to stop them from protesting. They beat up some demonstrators, including a reporter of a private television channel.

However, the protesters were undeterred and continued their protest. The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control. No one was arrested.

The situation in Kashmir, on either side of the Line of Control, has been tense since the February 14 attack on a motorcade of Indian forces that left 43 people dead. On February 26, India violated Pakistani airspace and dropped a payload in Pakistan’s Balakot. There were no casualties and little damage.

A day later, Pakistan shot down two Indian fighter jets for violating its airspace and shut down its airspace, suspending flight operations at all airports.

One Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, was also arrested. He was later released into Indian custody as announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan in his February 28 address to a joint session of parliament.

Despite the de-escalation, the border areas along the LoC are still tense as the exchange of fire and shelling continues.
