FGEHA director general confirms shelving of Thalian housing project

  • September 08, 2021

ISLAMABAD – The director general of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority Tariq Rashid on Tuesday informed a parliamentary body that the authority has formally shelved its Thalian housing project.

He was briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works. The committee meeting was held under the chair of Senator Hidyatulla Khan in the Parliament House.  The official informed that the joint venture project at Thalian is shelved because the private partner had failed to provide compact piece of land and a right of way from motorway for the project site.

He informed that the project was conceived in 2016 but it was full of lacunas. The private partner could not fulfill his commitments and sold the land three times. He said that an interchange proposed in JV agreement was also not for this land but for another private housing society.

Director general FGEHA informed further that those who have deposited the dues for the plots would be accommodated in upcoming sectors G-12 and F-12 of the housing authority. He said the remaining people would get back their money with interest if they will agree to take back their deposited amount.

He, however, while explaining the on-ground situation in sectors G-12 and F-12 informed the committee that there are a large number of built-up properties and the FGEHA is trying to fix the issue. He assured the committee that the land for the sectors would be cleared approximately in next six months.

The FGEHA had signed a JV agreement with a private developer M/s KSDB to provide developed plots to the housing authority for its members in 2016.  The developer committed to provide 7000-10,000 kanals of land in the revenue estates of Khari Mourat, Chahan, Mandowal, Thalian and Rajar for Thalian Housing Scheme.

However, the developer had failed to provide the mutation of even a single kanal in the name of FGEHA in the last six years and the project remained stalled.

Meanwhile, the FGEHA had already collected the down payment from its 5,317 members while the developer also sold about 256 plots in open market but in fact there was neither a project on site nor in papers.

Ideally, the project should be stopped immediately and the developer should be grilled for his mis-commitment but the authority remained extending the facilitating hand to the developer for the last many years.
