FGEHA to outsource horticultural work in G-13, G-14

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority has decided to outsource horticultural work in sectors G-13 and G-14 to a private firm through a competitive process.

At present, there is no permanent horticulture department in the housing authority to maintain the road medians, green areas and parks in G-13 and G-14.

Sector G-13 is fully developed and people are living there while on the other side there is only one sub-sector of G-14 out of the total four developed so far.  

An advertisement regarding procurement of the services of a horticulture firm is expected to be floated in national press in coming days in which the bids would be sought.

A well-placed source informed that the decision has been taken on the prevailing dilapidated situation of the aforementioned sectors. He informed that the authority has opted to outsource the work instead of creating its own formation because it is less expensive and more suitable.

He informed that the cost of this project is Rs.24 million for one year while any additional work would be carried out by the successful contractor separately on demand bases.    

Unlike the rest of the sectors in capital, G-13 and G-14 are developed by the FGEHA and the provision of basic facilities is also its responsibility but the service delivery remained very poor in the past.

However, after remaining in hibernation for a long period of time, the incumbent management has tried to overcome the issues of these sectors. Earlier, the FGEHA also got a water hydrant located at G-10 from the Capital Development Authority and arranged water tankers to give water supply in these sectors.

The water in sector G-13 is being supplied once in a week as the water supply lines network is available in this sector, whereas, a water tanker per week is being supplied to a household in Sector G-14 on subsidised rate.    

The maintenance of these sectors is dependent upon service charges and property taxes of the residents alone which are insufficient to meet the requirements.
