FIA seeks permission to get Zahir’s phone repaired

  • September 12, 2021

ISLAMABAD – The forensic experts of Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) are facing difficulty in extracting data from the mobile phone of Zahir Zakir Jaffar, accused of killing Noor Mukaddam, as the screen of device got damaged, revealed official sources here on Saturday.

The forensic experts of FIA also approached a court of law, which is conducting trial in high profile case, for obtaining permission to repair the mobile phone of the main accused. The phone was seized by the investigators of Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) of Police Station (PS) Kohsar from the killer as case property, they added.

However, the request of FIA Cyber Crime Wing is pending with the court of law, they mentioned.

This could delay issuance of a forensic report of mobile phone of Zahir Zakir Jaffar by FIA forensic experts to investigators of Islamabad police for completion of the “challan” in Noor Mukaddam murder case, sources said.

“The investigators of HIU could not complete challan in Noor murder case because of delay in issuance of forensic report by FIA,” said a senior police officer, who is associated with the investigation, while talking to this correspondent.

He added police had submitted an interim or incomplete challan before court in the high profile case because of this reason.

“Extracting data from iPhone of Zahir Zakir Jaffar has become a challenge for experts of FIA Cyber Crime Wing,” the officer said.

It may be noted that Islamabad police had submitted an interim challan before court of Additional and Sessions Judge (ASJ) Atta Rabbani in Noor Mukadam murder case.

In the interim challan, the investigators of Islamabad police told court that Noor Mukaddam, the daughter of former Pakistani diplomat Shaukat Ali Mukadam, reached house of Zahir Jaffar on July 18 in F-7/4 where security guard welcomed her and let her in. Noor stayed with Zahir in his house for two days and the duo fought with each other on July 20 when Noor refused to marry him. The challan mentioned that Zahir confined Noor in a room on which she warned him of approaching police against his illegal act.

Police also added in the interim challan that Zahir brought the matter into notice of his parents—Zakir Jaffar and Asmat Adam Jee—besides ordering the servants to not let Noor go out from the house.

The police investigators added in the interim challan that Noor Mukadam made as many as six attempts to escape from the illegal captivity of Zahir but the three servants—Iftikhar (guard), Jamil (chef) and Jan Muhammad (gardner)—thwarted her attempts to escape.”

Noor even jumped from the first floor to the courtyard and rushed towards main gate but the security guard Iftikhar instead of helping her went into basement of the house.

Gardner Jan Muhammad did not allow Noor to open the main gate and in the meanwhile Zahir came and dragged Noor by pulling her from hair back to the room where he beheaded her with a sharp knife, the interim challan said.

The police investigators added in investigation report that Zahir then called his parents and informed them about his brutal act of murdering Noor. Instead of alerting police about detention of Noor by Zahir or later on beheading her, Zakir Jaffar tried to relax his killer son and asked him not to worry as he (Zakir) was sending some people to dispose of the body, the interim challan said.

Then Zakir Jaffar sent workers of Therapy Works to his house in F-7/4 to hide evidences and remove the body of Noor, the investigators mentioned in interim challan submitted before court.

“Zahir Jaffar also attacked a worker of Therapy Works, Amjad, when he tried to enter the room while assuming as if he is from police or some other department,” the police report said.

The police also added in its interim investigation report that Amjad had concealed the crime and had not reported the knife attack to police rather he mentioned the reason for his injury to be a road traffic accident.

The challan said Shaukat Ali Mukadam also got registered an FIR with PS Kohsar on July 20, 2021 in which he stated that he went to market on July 19 to buy a sacrificial goat and found Noor missing from home upon his return. He told police he asked from Zahir Jaffar about whereabouts of Noor on phone who replied that she was not with him.

He said he had received a call from police on July 20 that her daughter Noor had been murdered. “I went to hospital and found Noor’s headless body there,” the police mentioned in challan.

The investigators of HIU of PS Kohsar also mentioned in the report that they have seized a blunt knife, 9mm pistol along with the magazine and bullets, knuckle duster, cigarette butts, a laptop, Jaffer’s bloodstained shirt, fingerprints, CCTV footage, medical reports, cell phones, cough syrups, and headache medicines from the crime scene.
