Firefox has decided to mute autoplaying videos by default in the newly released Firefox 66.
It prevents ads or videos from playing when you go on any website. Some websites, however, will still play videos on mute.
A new feature, scroll anchoring, will let users read in peace and let them stay on the webpage even when new ads appear.
There are other improvements in the browser, such as multi-tab searching, private browsing mode (similar to incognito in Chrome), clearer alerts for unsafe websites and an option to get help from support.
Websites that you have previously granted camera or microphone permission will continue to autoplay as standard unless you revoke these permissions.
