Four-member body to discuss PMDA with stakeholders

ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Wednesday constituted a four-member committee to liaise and discuss Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) with stakeholders.  

As per notification issued by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has been nominated chairman of the committee while other members include Sohail Ali Khan, Director General/Press Information Officer, Press Information Department (PID), Manzoor Ali Menon, DG (IP) Internal Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Deputy Director Mahar-un-Nisa, Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEMP) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to the officials, in first phase, the committee will hold discussions with representatives of Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA), APNS and CPNE, while in second phase it will hold discussions with media personalities on constitution of PMDA.

It is worth to mention that the government has drafted Pakistan Media Development Authority Ordinance, 2021, which aims to repel several existing laws including Press Council Ordinance, 2002, Press Newspaper, News Agencies and Books Registration Ordinance, 2002, Newspapers Employees Conditions of Service Act 1973, Pakistan Electronic Media Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA Amendment Act 2007 and the Motion Pictures Ordinance 1979.

Under the ordinance, Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) will be constituted.
