Game of Thrones breaks record with final season’s first episode

The first episode of the final season of Game of Thrones has been viewed by more than 17.4 million people, reported The Associated Press.

The season eight of the fantasy show premiered on Monday. Fans had been waiting for it since two years.

According to HBO, the season debut proved to be the biggest streaming night for HBO Now too.

The new episode, ‘Winterfell’, topped the viewership of last season’s premiere, which had 16.1 million views, and the finale, which had 16.9 million views.

Game of Thrones ultimately averaged 32.8 million viewers per episode last season in cumulative TV and online viewership, HBO said
