KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Monday briefed the participants of a meeting about recent heat wave alert and stressed upon all stakeholders to strictly observe past SOPs as well as make all possible efforts to save precious lives during heat wave in the city.
Yesterday, the mercury surged to 40.5 degrees Celsius in the metropolis with forecasts of further rise in the temp.
The Met Office said that Karachi, like other parts of the province, would experience hot to very hot weather on Tuesday and the maximum temperature would range between 41 and 42 degrees Celsius.
The mayor was presiding over a meeting to review arrangements to cope with the situation in expected heat wave at the KMC building.
Assistant Commissioner headquarters, Dr. Amber Mir briefed the meeting about measures taken by the Commissioner Karachi. She briefed that the Commissioner’s office is in constant coordination with the Metrological Office and Rescue 1299 service.
The mayor said 12 day-care centers have been established in different KMC hospitals whereas Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will also facilitate the heat stroke patients round the clock in the city.
He said he will personally visit these centres to check their performance.
He directed for carrying out massive awareness campaign through media for wide publicity of heat stroke centers, contact numbers, health advisory etc.
He directed to make request on his behalf to all governmental and private hospitals through electronic and print media for entertaining all heat stroke patients as pr their maximum capacity during heatstroke emergency.
He also desired that city wardens of KMC should also be provided with necessary training regarding heat stroke management for effectively serving the citizens in all the areas of Karachi.
