ICT admin hires 2 transgender persons on daily wages

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has hired the services of two transgender persons on daily wages, a step towards providing dignified jobs to the community members.

Muhammad Naeem alias Nadra and Muhammad Amjad alias Lubna have been hired by the Local Government and Rural Development department of the ICT on daily wages basis as semi-skilled workers @Rs770 per day. Their attendance will be marked on the Muster Roll. 

This is purely temporary duty and may be cancelled at any time without any prior notice, said the Office Order. According to the officials, the two transgender persons would be deputed at the Facilitation Centre. Now they will be doing dignified job instead of begging, according to the officials. Last year, the ICT administration had set up the first-ever dedicated madrassah (seminary) for the community in Islamabad and started enrolling students from every age group from the marginalised segment of the society. The new initiative for the transgender community was aimed to pull them out of the helplessness they have been in. 

The initiative comprised a package that included opening of an Islamic centre and monetary assistance with the help of private sector besides announcement of jobs for the transgender community of Islamabad in the ICT departments. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat had participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Islamic centre where he announced several jobs for the transgender community of Islamabad.
