IHC restores ATA clauses in Osma Satti murder case

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday restored the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) clauses in Osma Satti murder case.  

A division bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani and Justice Baber Sattar announced the verdict in a petition filed by the father of Osama challenging the decision of ATC to remove the terrorism charges against the five policemen involved in killing of Osama Satti. 

The bench directed to restore the terrorism and nullified Anti Terrorism Court’s decision to remove the charges from the case. 

The petitioner’s lawyer read out the first information report before the IHC bench and said that 17 bullets were shot at Osman Satti. He adopted that the police personnel misused their authorities under the ATA. 

He further said that this was a criminal case and therefore terrorism charges should be restored against the accused. 

In this matter, an ATC had removed the terrorism charges against the five policemen involved in killing Osama Satti and referred the case to the sessions’ court. 

The father of the deceased, however, decided to challenge the ATC’s decision before the Islamabad High Court (IHC). 

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand had announced the order on the applications of detained cops seeking deletion of clauses of Anti-Terrorism Act from the FIR registered against them in connection with Satti’s murder. 

As per the FIR registered by Satti’s father, his son Osama had a quarrel with officials of the capital police a day earlier and the latter had threatened him with dire consequences. 

He stated that on January 2, at around 2am, Osama had gone to drop his friend at H-11. When he was returning, the police officials intercepted his vehicle and fired at him from all sides, which resulted in his death.
