Islamabad becomes country’s first city to fully vaccinate 50pc eligible population

ISLAMABAD – National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar said on Sunday that Islamabad has become the first city in Pakistan with half of its eligible population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The minister took to his official Twitter handle to announce that at least 50 percent of those 15 years of age and older have been vaccinated in the capital. “Islamabad has become the first city in Pakistan to have at least 50% of its eligible population (15 years and older) fully vaccinated,” he said. 

He further said that 71 percent of Islamabad’s eligible population has received at least 1 dose. “71% of Islamabad eligible population has received at least 1 dose,” he said and also called for other cities to also accelerate the administration of second jab against Covid-19 to their population. “Need to see an acceleration of a second dose in other cities,” he said. Pakistan has so far fully vaccinated 21,613,626 people across the country The NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government’s strategy to contain the spread of the disease, had imposed some additional restrictions in 24 districts from September 4-11, closing schools and indoor gatherings and restricting public transport. The restrictions were later extended to September 15. In the past 24 hours, Islamabad reported 270 new cases of Covid-19 and one death. There were also 514 recoveries. The country reported 58 more deaths due to coronavirus and 3,153 positive cases in the country. According to the National Command and Operation Center statistics, 57,792 tests were conducted on Saturday and positivity ratio remained 5.45 percent. The coronavirus-related deaths, cases and positivity has seen a decline in the current days.
