Lawyers announce countrywide strike on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD: The lawyers announced countrywide strike on Tuesday against the non-bailable arrest order for Lahore High Court (LHC) Bar Association Multan President Sher Zaman in contempt of court case.

Reacting to the chaos at Lahore High Court, lawyers set tires on fire in Multan on Katchehry Road and blocked the road. The bar officials also indicated to go on strike tomorrow.

Commenting on the situation, Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf called on the lawyers to exercise restraints, adding the bench and the bar should work in concert with each other.

Sanctity of the bench and the bar should be upheld at all cost, he said.

Jumping in, Karachi Bar Association also announced boycott of courts tomorrow (Tuesday) against the confrontation between judiciary and the lawyers.

Karachi Bar Association deplored the action against lawyers and announced to hold General Body meeting at 11am tomorrow.

Meantime, the lawyers affiliated with Balochistan High Court Bar Association also announced to go on strike tomorrow. –SAMAA
