LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a contempt of court petition against Maryam Nawaz and Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, after declaring it non-maintainable.
Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition filed by Muhammad Saddarud Din Shah seeking contempt of court proceedings against the respondents for criticising the judiciary.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that during NA-120 by-election campaign, Maryam Nawaz criticised the judiciary.
He submitted that Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal also used derogatory remarks against judiciary on different occasions.
He contended that both respondents had committed contempt of court, therefore, contempt proceedings should be initiated against them.
To a court query, the counsel submitted that the Supreme Court had not taken notice of respondents’ criticism.
At this, the court dismissing the contempt petition observed that if the apex court had not taken any notice of respondents’ criticism then how the high court could take notice of it. – APP
