Man’s bag gets stolen as he risks life to save woman from oncoming train

An Indian man’s heroism is being applauded after he saved the life of a woman from an oncoming train.

Anil Vannavalli, 34, who resides in New York was at the Edison train station waiting to catch a train to Manhattan when his 26-year-old coworker fainted and fell onto the train tracks. Vannavalli had to leave his bag on the platform to save his co-worker from the train tracks.

However, someone else took advantage of the situation and stole his back which contained laptop and headphones worth $700, $200 in cash and his work identification card.

“How can they do this in this situation? I felt very bad,” Vannavalli said while speaking to The New York Post.

“We know these things happen off and on but not in this moment. When someone is going to save a life, how can he think about stealing?” he added.

“How can they think about the cheap things?”

However, despite the loss he faced, Vannivalli does not regret his act of heroism. “I’m glad we saved her and helped her. Money and things you can replace but not a human life,” he said.

The Edison Township police called the crime ‘disgusting’ and ‘outrageous’ in a Facebook post.

The police later presented Vannavalli with a cheque of $1000 to reward his bravery.
