MPs to bring MNA card to cast vote

  • March 03, 2021

ISLAMABAD – It will be necessary for all lawmakers from the lower house of the Parliament to bring their MNA cards to cast vote for Senate polls, scheduled to be held today [Wednesday]. With the onset of proceedings, Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri informed all the MNAs to bring cards of MNAs for casting their votes for the Senate polls. “I have to make an important announcement, If you don’t have an MNA card with you, contact the National Assembly Secretariat,” informed the deputy speaker with the onset of the proceedings. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would announce timing of the Senate polls. The rules and procedures clearly says, “Each voter shall carry with him an identity card issued to him by the Secretary National Assembly of which he is a member and shall, if so required, show the same to the Returning Officer before a ballot paper is issued to him.” The sub-rule (2) states that the Returning Officer shall, after satisfying himself about the identity of the voter and after ensuring that he has not already voted, put a tick mark against the name of the voter in the list of voters, enter the name of the voter on the counterfoil of the ballot paper and, after stamping the ballot paper on its back with the official mark and initialising it, hand it over to the voter.

The house, with the thin presence of the lawmakers, smoothly disposes of pending legislation without any interruption. The MNAs from government and opposition unanimously passed ‘Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2021’ and ‘The Ibadat International University, Islamabad Bill, 2021’.
