LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking a stiffer sentence for Sharjeel Khan who was suspended from all forms of cricket for five years for his role in a spot-fixing scandal.

In a Twitter statement on Thursday, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said that the cricket board has filed an appeal against the sentence imposed on Sharjeel Khan by a tribunal and is seeking a stiffer sentence.

The Hyderabad player was banned from all forms of cricket for five years over his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year.

Out of five years, he will remain suspended for half of the term during which cricket authorities will monitor his conduct.

“Sharjeel is banned for five years, which has two-and-a-half year suspended, after the proceedings of the case,” said Justice (retired) Asghar Haider, who headed the three-member tribunal. – SAMAA
