ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while rejecting the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections, has decided to protest ‘manipulation’ of electoral exercise.
The party ticket-holders in the July 25 general elections gathered in Islamabad on Thursday to chalk out a strategy against what the party viewed as the ruling PTI’s large-scale rigging. The opposition party, which ruled the region for the last 5 years have announced a protest movement. PML-N senior vice president Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was also present at the get together.
According to party sources, the ticket-holders expressed their reservations over polling process and termed their defeat in the polls an outcome of PTI’s rigging.
Accuses PTI of manipulating electoral exercise
It is to mention here that the PTI emerged as the biggest party in AJK after winning 25 seats in the Sunday’s general election in the region. The party routed the PML-N which could only secure 6 LA seats. On Tuesday, the PML-N key leaders including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal and AJK’s former premier Raja Farooq Haider had addressed a press conference in the AJK’s capital Muzaffarabad and rejected the election results. “We reject the election results. We will launch a movement against this rigging in Pakistan as well as across the world and expose Imran Khan,” said Raja Farooq Haider.
PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz on the very next day of the elections had said that the party has not accepted the election results. “I have not accepted the AJK election results… and I will not. I had neither accepted the results of the 2018 general election nor this fake government. The PML-N will soon announce a strategy on this shameful rigging in the AJK polls,” PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz had tweeted.
