Police arrest 7 persons on charges of firing, violating corona SOPs

Islamabad – The police arrested a guest of a wedding party for resorting to aerial firing with automatic weapon while appearing from sunroof of a vehicle on Satra Mile Road in Bhara Kahu area, informed sources. 

A case has also been registered against the groom, his father, two brothers and other guests under sections 188/337Hii/109 of PPC with Police Station (PS) Bhara Kahu, they said.

According to details, the marriage ceremony of Saqib Hussain, son of Abu Bakar Abbasi, was taking place and a convoy of vehicles was cruising towards Murree via Satra Mile Road. 

They said a guest had started indiscriminate firing while appearing from sunroof of a vehicle. A video of incident also went viral on social media earning criticism over the violation of Section 144 in federal capital that also sprang the police into immediate action. Bhara Kahu police have registered a case against the groom, his father, brothers and other violators and begun investigation, sources said adding that police also held the gunman involved in aerial firing and locked him up behind the bars.

According to a police spokesman, police have arrested the guest of a marriage ceremony on charges of resorting to aerial firing. He said a case was also registered against him. He said nobody will be allowed to take law into his/her hands as IG Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman has clearly directed to stake strict action against violators. 

Meanwhile, Saddar Bairooni police have also arrested five men and a woman during a raid on a marriage party being arranged in Dhala Khasala village in violation of SOPs issued by the government for stopping spread of COVID-19, according to a police spokesman. He said case was registered under sections 294/188 of PPC, The Punjab Regulation and Control of Loudspeakers and Sound Amplifiers Ordinance 1965 and Marriage Functions (Prohibition of Ostentatious Displays and Wasteful Expenses) Ordinance 2000. 

Those who were held by police have been identified as Amir Shehzad son of Liaquat Ali, Rashid Minhas, Riaz Hussain, Muhammad Basit, Muhammad Altaf and Nazia Saeed. Raid was carried out on marriage ceremony of groom Tashfee son of Raja Arshad following orders of CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas, he said.
